Specializations

As a licensed clinical psychologist, I provide psychological assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, and a treatment plan unique to YOU. With my specialized training and clinical knowledge, I approach treatment from a developmental, culturally attuned, and adaptive, realistic approach.

I have treated all of the populations listed below at the first incidence of occurrence (be it inpatient acute/crisis versus at home and pediatric to geriatric) with varied presentations throughout the lifespan. I provide individual and group therapy for those with reoccurring presentations of illness, those who have been stable for years, to anyone experiencing stress due to difficulties in managing a current life stressor or transition.

I believe you require individualized care, and as your provider, I approach your plan with scientifically validated techniques, incorporating various interventions to relieve emotional and psychological distress. This approach is evidence based and meets our goal of terminating from treatment with you feeling connected to yourself and your community equipped with the tools you need to manage life’s stressors.

Trauma and PTSD

Traumatic experiences can significantly impact our level of functioning. Oftentimes, when PTSD is present, there are co-occurring difficulties present; such as, panic attacks, phobias, depression, and substance use. We will first aim in treatment to alleviate discomfort, emotional and psychological distress. EMDR, CBT, CPT, DBT with a focus on mindfulness techniques, and prolonged exposure are utilized to assist in overcoming barriers to the next level of healing. With complex trauma and re-occurring incidence of C- PTSD, I use a trauma focused individualized approach to alleviate symptoms and then guide and coach you through some of the barriers keeping you in this cycle.

Perinatal and Postpartum Health

The transition into motherhood can be overwhelming at times as you learn to navigate a new reality as a parent. We are all doing the best we can do during this time. The most common mental health conditions during the perinatal period are depression and anxiety. Perinatal and postpartum health have become a significant area of study where it is estimated that an average prevalence of 12% of women meet the diagnostic criteria for perinatal depression. There are estimates this rate has doubled since the COVID-19 pandemic. Untreated perinatal depression has a negative impact on the mental and physical health of women, their partners, and children. I utilize CBT, IPT, and lifestyle changes incorporating DBT, and we focus on how you can improve the quality of your relationships and support system. My approach is also enriched with my own personal perinatal experiences and as a mother of 3.

Mood and Chronic Mental Health

Working with severe mental illness is truly a strength of mine and is what originally brought me into the field of psychology. Mental illness is an occurrence of 1 in 5 in our population. I have a unique ability in treating those who experience psychosis (i.e. depression, bipolar, schizoaffective disorder, C-PTSD). I will guide you first on unveiling the intricacies of how stigmatization regarding mental health challenges unique to you can keep you stuck in this cycle of treatment and illness. I work in collaboration with my clients using the psychosocial rehabilitation model incorporating the biopsychosocial model focusing on strengths and community. In laments terms, we work within a traditional framework of coordination of care where medication is managed, symptoms are stable, and rehabilitation occurs with structure, where strengths are nurtured, and your social support and community is vital, AND truly can make all the difference.
