About Me
Hello. I love what I do. I am not your “typical doctor” with a typical approach. My purpose as your provider is to help you fully embrace who you are so that you can lead a happy, healthy and fulfilling life, whatever that may look like. I was born and raised on the Southside of San Antonio, Texas and have humble beginnings. I left home at 18 years old, I’ve lived on the East Coast, in the South and on the West Coast. I went to Boston University where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in Women’s Studies. Life experience took me back to Texas where I married my college sweetheart and we lived in College Station, and Temple, Texas, where I was a research assistant for 2 years working under a scientist. After my beautiful abuelita passed away, I had a breakthrough and went on to obtain my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology in pursuit of my childhood dream of becoming a clinical psychologist. My husband and I went on to complete the last leg of our professional paths and lived in Los Angeles where I obtained my doctorate and completed my internships. We moved back to San Antonio in 2011 to start our family and I live and breathe what I recommend to you as your provider.
I was born a dancer and started dancing formally at 4 years old and have not stopped.
I was memorizing books in the 1st grade, which caught my teacher’s attention and was labeled as gifted at 6 years old. It was recommended I skip a grade level given my academic performance, but did not because my parents were concerned for my social development.
I have never been afraid to try new things.
I got in trouble for talking too much growing up.
I began cooking at a young age and it is definitely a love language of mine.
I have had my own therapy as it was a requirement of my program and I went through ALL the steps.
I am a trauma survivor.
My journey into motherhood was not an easy one and after a medical diagnosis, I was required to be on strict bedrest for 5 months. Subsequent pregnancies required bedrest.
Some food for thought…
I want you to know, I may not have exactly been where you are, but I have been there. WE are all just doing the best we can with what we have. I have studied all of my life and have committed to a career where it is my duty to continue learning with you. There are too many people who have sat across from me to not believe in the power of our own humanity and capabilities. Wherever your life experience has taken you, there’s always another way.
It takes more than my knowledge to help you though, it takes a commitment to yourself and you growing through what you have to. I can help you identify and overcome the road blocks and barriers to managing your mental health and wellbeing. I want you to find what brings you pure joy and pure love and brings you back to the real YOU.
Thank you so much if you read all of this. I look forward to working with you and remember to take gentle care of you.
-Dr. Jamie
